Default Allroad making bad noises

Can anyone help - my 2000 Allroad is making a strange gringing noise while coasting. It's coming from the rear left hand side of the car. I doesn't happen all the time. It sound like a rubbing at one part of the rotation of the wheel but as you slow to a hault the timing of the noise is the same, not relative to the rotation of the wheels. I have had the exhaust checked and it is OK. Any Ideas? suspension? Hide hight stuff?

wheel bearing or hub bearing. its going out i would lift up your car, grab the tire and lean it up then down. if it rocks this way then your wheel bearing is out. if it doesnt but it makes the noise your hub bearing is out. should be about a 200 dollar fix

Hmmm... Wheel bearing? Wouldn't that be a constant thing and speed related? Anyway the car has just passed its MOT (compulsory roadworthy test in England) and they fail you for dud wheel bearings. I will find out for sure tomorrow as I am taking it to the dealer for a check up. Hope its not too steep!! [&:]
