Default Drivetrain Vibration

Folks, Pleasehelp-

I have an '01 Allroad, 2.7T, 6spd, 114K miles, over the last month strong drivetrain vibrations have emerged. In any gear, usually above 2500 rpm, the entire car shudders, coast with the clutch engaged or not and the car smooths right out. Nocheck engine light, new tires, had them rebalanced. I took it into the dealership in Omaha and asked them to diagnose the vibration. $745 dollars later they replaced the passenger CV which they claimed was poor (I am not challenging this). They also said the drivers side CV did show wear but it was decent.Of course, I get less than a mile from the dealer and my old friend (the vibration) rears it's ugly head again, the car behaved exactly the same. Back at the dealer, they want to replace the other CV joint. I know you can see where this is headed, I asked the dealer if have they any diagnosistic tools or previous Allroad experience that would isolatemy vibration problem, their best answer as we need to replace the other CV and go from there. The vibration is so bad I have stopped driving it. Has anyone experienced similar characteristics? any and all recommondations are welcome.
