Default heated steering wheel?

My '04 that I just picked up seems to have most, if not all of the bells and whistles available that year. No Nav, and thankfully, no Bose, but definitely the winter package.

Isn't the steering wheel supposed to be heated with the Winter Package? The rear seats are heated and there's a ski bag, so the package is there. I won't die without the heated steering wheel, but this car is a CPO, and I want everything that's supposed to be working, working. Even used, it wasn't cheap.

They stopped producing the heated steering wheel after 02 because it keeps melting the leather on the wheel and some people complained that it burnt thier hands what not. They are supposed to be bringing it back in the 07+ models with more subtle controls.

Thanks for the info. It's probably better to need winter gloves to keep warm rather than having to wear a coupla kitchen hot mitts in order to drive.

wyndmoor, do you have a 4.2? I think they brought it back in 04 or 05 for the 4.2 only

Yes, my AR is a 4.2. I didn't know that there was an amenity difference between the models, on engine size.
