P1113 and P1131
Hi Folks, the CEL lit up on my2001 Allroad2.7T. Igot the faultcodes pulled. They are P1113 and P1131. Seems like thereare problems withBank 1 Sensor 1 and Bank2 Sensor 1.
Can someone pls tell me where these oxygen sensors are located in terms of physical location? Any pictures or diagrams illustrating them would be very helpful. I am in the process of buying a repair manual but meantime your help is greatly appreciated.
I am trying to shop for parts online and they seem to have multiple categories, viz.,:
1. O2 sensor - front position - left and right
2. O2 sensor - rear right position - passenger's side
3. O2 sensor - rear left position - driver's side
Out of these 4 sensors, which ones belong to bank 1 and 2, and which ones are sensors 1 and 2?
Thanx!

RE: P1113 and P1131
Bank 1 is the passenger's side, Bank 2 is the driver's.
The rear O2 sensors are easy to see from under the car where as the front O2 sensors your gonna have problems. Both sensor 1 on both banks are gonna be the ones closest to the engine.
To change them requires a lot of tools, you have to remove both the heatshields and the EGT sensors just to get a O2 sensor socket or wrench on them, and you may have to remove the rear subframe bolts and lower down the transmission to gain access to one of the bolts on the heatshield justto remove it. Its a difficult job and i don't recommend doing the number 1 sensors un-less your well versed in auto mechanics.

I think I figured it out. Pls correct meif I am wrong. Thanx!
(Driver) (Passenger)
(side)(side)
Front B2S1 +-----+ B1S1 (before Catalytic converter)
^ | |
| | Cat |
| | Con |
| | |
Rear B2S2 +-----+ B1S2 (after Catalytic converter)
The sensors before catalytic converter (B2S1 and B1S1)apparently go together and therefore should be replaced together unlike the sensors after catalytic converter (B2S2 and B1S2) which can be replaced separately.
The two error codes I am seeing, P1113 andP1131,relate to bad B1S1 and B2S1 respectively, which would be the front sensors.

RE: P1113 and P1131
Folks, I was able to change the sensor successfully on my Allroad today. It becomes a relatively easy job if you have two critical tools - an offset socket and (very importantly) a small 3/8" ratchet with a palm-length handle. With anything bigger, I found it difficult to maneuver it in the tight space. The small ratchet will fit perfectly in your palm which is pretty much the amount of space you will find in there around the sensor. To get access to the sensor, I just had to disconnect couple of (air) hoses/ducts behind the engine, but that was all.
The dealer was asking almost half a grand for the job and I finished it under couple of hundred bucks
Thanx!
