Problem with gas pedal/TPS
I have a 2001 allroad with 90k on it. Just had it APR chipped about two months back...tons of power, etc. However, I am having a problem that seems like a throttle position sensor issue....basically, when I give it gas sometimes, there is hardly ANY power, I mean, I can punch it and its like the car is getting 1/4 throttle. However, If I let off the gas, then get on it again, it kicks in. Also, at times I can be holding the gas pedal down going steady at 30mph and all the sudden the car will drop its rpm's almost down to an idle speed...but then lurch back up to where it was. VERY STRANGE! Its weird though that every time this happens, all I have to do is let off the gas pedal then push it again and the car goes back to normal. So, question is, does that little sensor on the gas pedal (I think its a TPS) ever go out? ANY ideas and or help on this would be great!
Thanks,
Chans

Have you been able to narrow it down at all? I keep looking for leaks, etc but nothing. I am leaning towards the pedal and the sensor that is on it. Let me know if you have any luck figuring it out! Cheers!
I have an Audi A4 1.8T. In Feb 2010 Audi Belfast fitted a throttle pedal sensor after it failed and had power issues.
At the end of May 2010 I booked my car into Audi Glasgow to get it repaired after I was overtaking a lorry and the power drained from the car. At the same time I got EPC and other warning lights on the dashboard.
I didn't manage to overtake the lorry as I didn't have enough power to do so. It was quite scarry and I was lucky there was nothing behind me so I slammed the brakes on and pulled in.
I called the AA who put the car on a diagnostic test, the car linked to the AA's computer and showed a throttle pedal sensor failure fault.
I phoned Audi and made sure they had a throttle pedal sensor in stock before taking my car to Glasgow today. I told the service rep. the problem I had and asked them to fit a new one. I took the invoice from Belfast with me and the AA sheet and left them to fit a new sensor to the car.
The service rep. told me today that the car had a new sensor fitted but when I got home the invoice stated : 'basic settings reset, customer to monitor, if fault occurs further inv will be required.'
I'm really angry, does that mean I'm free to go on the road thinking I have a new sensor when I in fact I don't and, free for the car to reduce power when your overtaking and potentially be in an accident.
After reading the other concerns from drivers it's only a matter of time before an accident results from the failure of the throttle pedal sensor which Audi garages must know about and choose to ignore.
I drive two children about in my car. I need to know it's reliable.
Does anyone else have any incidents of failed throttle pedal sensors.

I also experience that throttle pedal sensor failure and almost got accident because of it. Before any accident will happen I bought new one and replace it. And I also decided to customized its gas pedal with this retro barefoot gas pedal I found.
