06 A3 M6T 2.0T Body Paint Issue
I completed some thourough research prior to purchasing "Greta", and was completly satisfied with the outcome. Which lead to her purchase. She previously was owned by Audi/VW Credit Services as a company car in Shaumburg, Illinois (Audi HQ), I bought her with just 12,000 miles and full warranty transferred. She carries the Premium Package / Cold Weather Package, Bose stereo system, etc. She underwent ALL services in an Audi facility, at the proper time intervals. Nothing came out of background checks for damage, etc.
The ISSUE.
While washing Greta last Saturday, I noticed that the clear coat has popped off the nose, there ARE NO ROCK DIVITS in the area which would have theoretically caused this to happen. I baby this car (hand wash, garage kept)!
Asking my local Audi Service Dept about warranty, I am told that a Field Rep must do a on-site inspection to make a determination. Also was told that the FR stated that I am the 2nd owner of said car, therefore the dealership may not cover the problem, even though it was previously owned by Audi and still under warranty. While I have ALL the service records, past history, etc. the car has barely over 18,000 miles (clearly still under warranty), I am being told that Audi will probably not cover it.
Has anyone had any issues of this sort? Cause at this point, it looks as if the warranty isn't worth the paper it is printed on. I really love this car, but who pays that kind of money for luxury to have this happen?
Very Respectfully,
"Hansel"

Welcome to the forums, first of all! Although I've only been here for 6 months and my A3 is only 3 months old, I have never heard of any paint or clearcoat issues with any Audi...or at least any late model Audi for that matter. I had always thought Audi was among the the best when it comes quality materials, including paint. Maybe the former owners did something they weren't supposed to do or encountered something caustic on the road?

I appreciate the quick reply. I spoke with a lady at Audi Hq and wastold that "if" the car was damaged prior to being sold at the dealer, then Audi would ensure the car was repaired,ACCORDING to Audi standards, which according to the warranty would still be valid. Iam just a little confused as to why the FR would deny the claim, even though Audi Hq owned the car prior.Just seems a little off the wall to me. I am perplexed by the idea of not provifing Quailty Service when business' are now feeling the "Laws of 200" in sales and marketing?

Unfortunately, you don't know the full history of the car. Your clear coat issues may have been caused by bird droppings left unclean for significant amounts of time. Seeing as it was a company car before, I doubt that whoever drove it rushed to get that cleaned up as soon as it happened.
Edit: on a different note, get them to inspect it. They can place a warranty request with Audi USA and see if it gets approved. I had the leather on the driver's seat crack on mine after approximately 8 months, even though it had been cleaned regularly. I was extremely miffed since warranty stated that it wouldn't cover it, but Audi replaced it anyway.

Hi, can every bird excrement in the washington Baltimore area be toxic? Since I bought my A3 the few times a bird defecated on my hood, the clear coat was melted! Yes melted. there is no polisher to fix it. I'ts not dirty attached to the paint but not clerar coat at all. What to do? Audi Anapolis says this is common to all the cars. Common problem? Please help.

I'd suspect that Greta had a minor nose job. I've been around used European cars and dealerships a long time- cars with rock chips and light front paint damage, from use in snowy conditions, are frequently touched up on the bumper/nose. Often they are clear coated and blended. There are mobile specialists who perform this service for used lots, but i suspect that Audi has their own facilities. Sounds like they just had a bad paint day.
There is always the possibility that it's a factory defect, but this would be extremely rare these days

Yipes! Do all the local birds eat really spicy foods or something? Now I'm paranoid because my driveway sits under two huge trees.

I've have many of those poisen bird poop spots, not to mention killings thousands of insects on the front of my hood/bumper, but i noticed using a lil bit of rubbing compound from 30 along with a machnie buffer does the work VERY WELL!!!! the haze goes away and it's been over a year and the haze hasn't come back yet
