Also, the Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus analogy is inapt. Honda started Acura to be its North American luxury division; there is no Acura in Japan. Same thing for Toyota / Lexus, except Toyota has just begun to market Lexus in the JDM. With regard to illwork4somebread's point re: R&D, it's all done by the parent company, i.e., Honda and Toyota. Whereas, VW and Audi started as two companies, so have more independent R&D.

This is proving to be a difficult decision. I test drove the 2.0T and the best assessment is that it feels a little different. It's got the non-linear acceleration I've gotten used to with the WRX, but it felt a bit lazy overall. I'm not committed either way re: turbo vs. naturally aspirated. My WRX flies in high RPMs but in everyday driving (at least in my situation) the 3.2 is definitely a little more fun than the 2.0.
My WRX has had ridiculous turbo lag, especially when the weather is hot or humid, and the lack of low-end go contributed to a recent wreck. So I may just be looking for the low-end torque from the line instead of flat-out acceleration.
What numbers are you all getting from the 2.0 mods? I'm hesitant to take a brand new audi and start tinkering with engine mounts, sway bars, new tires, brakes, etc. if the hp will only increase to 240-260. Would a simple reflash do the trick without having to do other mods? Or maybe just a reflash and new exhaust (both of which the dealership will arrange)?

ok, my turn to post........
i have a 2.0T MT, after you chip the 2.0, you pretty much have the power of the 3.2 engine, add CAI, and Turboback exhaust to that, maybe engine mounts and you surpass the 3.2, ALL for cheaper than buying a 3.2. as for turbo lag, obviously, you haven't test drove a chipped A3 yet, but once you rpms get near 2600, the turbo spools in quick, not only that, but once you chip it, the govenor bring your top speed from 130 to 145 mph, of which i myself has tested and is VERY smooth at high speeds, and if you plan on running 100 octane gas, you're for sure gonna push 320+ ft/lb of torque and 260ish or more hp. pretty damn good for a little 2 liter engine!!!!!

Nam was close, but the turbo doesn't lag much at all. It is very strong from 1800rpms on...
If you just chip the ecu, you'll be very satisfied. The large amount of torque in the 2.0T gives it a very fun and fast real world driving experience. You buy horsepower, but drive torque. A reflash will get you close to 300lbs of torque depending on the grade of fuel and chip company. Adding a CAI or Exhaust will solidify the deal.
Drive a chipped 2.0T and you'll be sold.
Cheers!

Chipping is pretty essential for the 2.0T, and does not increase the lag at all. As for the 0.5sec of turbo lag, you just have to adjust to it. It's no where close to the amount of lag in a WRX or Evo.
