2006 A3: High Pitch Noise
I am hearing an annoying High Pitch noise at low speeds, especially during morning driving. The pitch of this noise increases with accelaration and disappears after about 40 mph.
Does any one else hear this noise. I do not recall hearing this noise in the test drive car. Is there anyway to eliminate this noise. I am sure the dealer is going to say "We did not hear any such noise when we drove it". How do I get them to fix it?

Well without trying you'll never know eh? If you are sitting in neutral and you press the gas does the pitch get faster/higher?

) It is really annoying in stop and go traffic while in 2-4 gear range. Normally these sounds start appearing after 100000 miles but this noise started from day 1. Its like a whining noise. I have read about turbo spooling noise etc, but I am not sure if it is the same since the car I test drove did not have this noise (which by the way did not have the features I wanted, so had to special order the car). Can A3 owners tell me what noises they hear if any at low speeds and if they are normal? The puff noise when changing gears is great and I have no complaints about it. But this whining thing is really horrible.

It does not happen in Neutral. It happens during accelaration, the pitch of the noise increases until it is too high to be audible. At low speeds, if you release the throttle, the pitch reduces, if you give gas, it goes up.
It sounds like an airleak. I had one with improperly installed winshield. Make sure all your windows, doors and hatch and moonroof are completely closed. Look for any breaks in seal around the car, especially around doors. Yeah, this shouldn't happen in a new car unless, you left something incompletely closed.
very common fault especially if the breaks/rotors have been worked on, the dust cover behind the rotor could be touching the rotor/disc

Are you sure it's not the sweet sexy sound of the great Audi turbo engine? Turbos create a high pitch sound and that might be most likely what you are hearing, but may not have heard it through all the chatting in the car on your test drive.
