Default 2008 A3 Satellite Tuner Install Questions

I just purchased a tuner for Sirius radio, it is the correct tuner that works with the Audi Concert head unit (No bose or NAV) in the 2008 (8E0 035 593 L). I am planning to follow these instructions and was wondering if anyone here could verify that they are valid for the 2008 A3? Here's a link to the instructions:

http://mcdonst1.spaces.live.com/Blog...CA%21178.entry

The main questions I have are:
1. is the satellite antennae plug NOT used?
2. Is the CAN bus connection bridge still under/behind the passenger door kickplate cover? Or is it under the seat?
3. What does CAN stand for?

Thanks for any input/insight you can provide!

The antenna plug is the two wires you see to the far left in figure four. I'm not sure why they would have moved the can-bus connection. I believe CAN stands for Communication/Audio Network, but I'm sure I'm going to be wrong.

converted, thanks for the reply. I just called Audi service here locally and the tech looked the instructions up on the computer. The documented instructions I posted a link to are dead on!

I'll update with the outcome when I get it in and working.

Ok, so far I've gotten the sirius unit installed in the trunk area. BUT, I'm having some difficulty removing the passenger kickplate by the door. The 08 kickplates are different than the 06 ones pictured in the instructions I am using.

Anyone have any advice for removing these? Looks like I have to remove the headliner colered one that has an aairbag behind it, then remove the black one below that which actually is a very large piece that wraps all the way to the back seat area??

Anyone help out with this? Thanks.

Got everything installed and hooked up. I've come across a few posts questioning whether or not the Ipod connection would still work after satellite was hooked up, it does in mine. The kickplates in the 08 A3 were a b*tch to get up, you really have to pull hard on them.

"I believe CAN stands for Communication/Audio Network, but I'm sure I'm going to be wrong."

CAN stands for Controller Area Network. It is one of the more successful and reliable protocol's created which is why you still find them in modern cars and it only needs TWO WIRES to interface a device to a host!

I just finished my XM module install a couple weeks ago too. It was a real btich getting the kick plates off the passenger door. The pictures in the DIY you linked (which is exactly the one I used) were a tad misleading. You just have to tug on the kick plate in the right angle so-as not to bend the top part of kick plate reaching up towards the right side of the glove compartment. I had to buy a terk antenna splitter/amplifier for my XM module. I assume you didn't have to. Now all i have to do it wait for the XM/Sirius merger to get ALL of the sports on sat radio!~!! woo hoo

when you installed the tuner module did you find a wire harness ran through the spot where the tuner box goes? I had a harness here that I couldn't move so my tuner box doesn't sit flush in the cage.

No there was nothing in the way. All of wires that were tie wrapped to the cage were undone and plugged into the tuner box which left the cage wide open. However, because my terk antenna splitter was so bulky my tuner box didn't sit completely flush.
