Default 2016 A3 surges

1.8 engine. Automatic. Car has about 9800 miles.

Around 1/4 tank the car jerks and surges as if running out of gas. This has been going on a few months and local dealer cant figure it out.
Then the other day with less then a 1/4 tank left (2 tick marks on fuel gauge), i applied the gas peddle and it did not respond - no jump in rpm, just nothing.

This is occurring at fwy speeds. I have not noticed this around town say 40 mph or less. Which is why i have not noticed this each time i fill up the tank and then reach the 1/4 tank point.

In the past Audi/VW fuel pumps had issues where they overheated and acted up as if they ran out of gas. The only solution was to fill up the gas tank to provide extra cooling which worked until you dropped below a half or quarter tank. It was even worse on hot days as it cut out even during high RPM drives.

Now I have no idea about 2016 generations - as they are pretty new I'm not sure if they introduced fuel pump issues again.

I would rule out the fuel filter as these surges or issues would be there all the time regardless of gas level

I've also heard of situations where the fuel hose (attached on the in-tank fuel pump) somehow dislodged itself from the bottom of the pump. Obviously once your fuel level drops and the hose swims on top - it doesn't get full flow anymore.

It all comes down to: have your fuel pump checked out.

A (sump?) pump was replaced in November. Soon after my problem began. After two visits back to the dealer, they ended up replacing the pump. So now on number three. Will see now if the second pump was the culprit. Original pump gave me no issues. So despite it being a recall, still one to believe - if its not bkn why mess with it...

The A3 had a recall on the fuel pump. My A3 fuel pump was replaced for free at the dealership that is your problem inquire about the recall
