49,500 cam shaft, cam follower, fuel pump, trashed!!!!!
So I guess i got lucky since my warranty runs out in a few hundred miles, so i droped it off at the dealer to have them go over it. My friend actually works at this dealer ship, so he checked out my cam follower and what he found was every 2.0t owners worst nightmare, my fuel pump wore all the way through the follower and into the cam, and i have always used 502/505 spec oil, never late on a oil change and babied the car the entire time i have owned it and changed the oil every 4,000 miles. So needless to say everyone with 2.0t's, get those followers checked out, and my check engine light never went off so you cant depend on that to tell you if something is up. When u take your A3 in tell them you are having a lose of power and decreased fuel mileage, that way they will check the cam follower.
Right now they are putting a new intake cam, fuel pump, and follower in my car, thank god my warranty was still good or i would have been spending a *** load of money.
Heres my cam follower, you shouldnt be able to see through it hahaha.

And yes my A3 is still up for sale, and now it will have a pretty much new top end lol. I will have receipts to prove the work was done by Audi.

From what I understand They try to get as much out as possible (but nothing is 100%) but that's why a lot of people rather did the preventative fix (replacing follower) rather than waiting for it to fail and claim warranty on it. It's nice to have everything fixed for free and get new stuff but you still end up with metal stuff in the engine that could potentially cause other issues down the line

Thanks.
So the dealer gave me a 4k bill to hopefully find the pieces in the head and AOA won't help in anyway. I am truly disappointed in Audi and how they have chosen to stand by there product. This is a known issue that they supposedly fixed and it failed again.
What to do?
-Have dealer try and find it with the 4k fix? If they don't how far should one really go?
-Replace engine?
-Just slap on a new follower and hpfp and pray?
-Who else to call or escalate to?
Personally I would buy the upgraded revision camshaft replacement kit (to reduce the possibility of future failures.) replace everything myself as this will save a lot of money (kit is only like 800 bucks). During the replacement get all the metal out that you can find do a nice flush with an oil change. When done install a drain plug with a magnet to collect any pieces that my flow by and do another oil change within maybe 1k to check and see how things are going.

The camshaft was already replaced under warranty back in 2013. Though I don't know what version it was.
While I believe I have the ability to do the work myself, of course I am hesitant as it would be what I believe to be the most complex one to date. Aghhh....
Plus some special tools are needed.....
Well I never said it was going to be easy
Considering paying 4k for a dealership job or 800 bucks just for parts and your weekend - you decide
Maybe you have someone in your family/friends circle that is mechanically inclined enough to assist? There is also youtube, tons of forums with DIY and there are Bentley manuals that have very detailed steps of what needs to be done to complete this job.

Not wanting to hijack this already raised from the past thread, but can I jump in with a question or three?
I have a rather low mileage 2006 A3, showing just over 57,000 miles. Have owned since new. I have a feeling even though the miles aren't there, several things do need attention before they fail. Like a water pump and things like the cam follower items. Honestly not sure at this moment (have had a few adult beverages) if it has a timing chain or belt?
Should I take the preventive action now or wait? (still have an ECT reporting issue from the coolant temp sensor at the water pump neck that could use further troubleshooting)
If not now, when, or is it needed before any sudden onset of symptoms?
*disclaimer about mileage. while I do like driving the A3, my motorcycle is my preferred transportation if weather and cargo permit.
