55k Service. Important?

55k Service. Important?
Purchased a 2007 A3 3.2ltr with 55,980 miles. The service light came on a day or two later. Got the oil changed courtesy of the dealer however they aren't going to cover the rest of the service as the car is not a certified vehicle. I had the men in service have a look around when it was in for the oil change so see if anything else was in need of immediate fix. They said it was in great shape and as the 45k service was conducted at 46k and change and that was just back in October nothing else was an immediate concern. As the service is $500 I'm just wondering how important it is to get this done and done soon. The only thing I'd say is that there is a light smell in the car and replacing the air filter could perhaps fix that?
Any recommendations would be appreciated!

The 55k would include oil, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter. Not the spark plugs though. The pollen filter would be the first change for the smell in your car. The engine air filter wouldn't solve that problem for you.

You could do most everything, it's check and inspect lights, belts, lube doors, sunroof, check brakes, check for leaks, that kind of stuff. Check for codes/clear codes would be the only thing you might not have the tool for. I'm assuming the vagcom I've heard and read about from this forum would take care of that. Maybe you know somebody that can help you with that.
You should call them and see what they tell you that 55k service is comprised of.

I haven't ever done any of that before. I don't know that I have the skill or knowledge to do so but let me ask you this...
Would the 55K service do anything for my gas economy? I'm getting a pathetic 15.4 city right now.

That list shows a fuel filter change for 2010 A3 2.0 tdi's only, you have an 07 3.2, but I agree with LWNY that it wouldn't hurt doing a fuel filter and looking at the plugs or replacing if you think they should be. In my opinion, if your fuel filter was plugged enough to reduce mileage, you'd have driveability problems too.

So while it's in for the recall on the metatronics unit I think I'm going to get the 55k service done and have them check the fuel filter. I'm going have them look for damage to adjacent parts. (Are they responsible for that?) And is there anything I should have them look at?
