A3 Headlight Cover

A3 Headlight Cover
Question for the northern folks.
First off - how easy is it to scratch the headlight covers on the A3 when removing ice. Next, when y'all turn on your headlights - does it produce enough heat to perhaps melt the ice off of the plastic/lexan (whatever) cover. Therefore it may not be necessary for me to try and scrape the ice off. I really don't want to scratch them up since it is my first winter with the car. We really got some crappy weather here in Maryland overnight and still falling. Just wondering.

RE: A3 Headlight Cover
Only thing i have done is throw some antifreeze on them, I wouldn't try and scrape em off, because it would damage the covers.
If they're really iced up, the heat after drivin about 10 mins, then poppin into a gas staion and using the squeegees and anti-freeze usually works for me.
But lets be honest, sometimes its just really f%^&$*&^ cold, and there ain't nothing you can do.
