Default Aftermarket Stereo Head Unit - 2010 A3

Hey all -

2010 A3 TDI - I am interested in installing an aftermarket stereo head unit solution that provides:

- iPhone/iPod integration that: allows steering wheel controls to work - And screen display of band/song, folders, etc. (preferably through glove box connection)

- Control of iPhone/iPod songs through head unit UI

- Possibly stream music over bluetooth and still control through steering wheel and get UI visibility on head unit

This is the only option I have found:

http://www.smartauto24.com/audi/audi...rket-head-unit

Anyone have experience with installing one? Does it cover all the above scenarios? How much should I expect for installation? Any regrets?

Hey Sonic,

I am in a similar predicament. I just wanted to find out if you came across
any successful alternatives with yours. Let me know, thanks!

I got this last year and did the install myself except for the XM Satellite tuner. I had to have someone rip up my car to run the new tuner from the back of the car up to the front.

AV Navigation System - KW-NT30HD - Introduction

The unit itself is awesome. Full non-dvd navigation, HD radio, SD card slot (I have a 32gb card in it and that is plenty of music) full iPod integration through the USB on the front of the unit, BLUETOOTH STREAMING from an iPhone/ipod as well (it streams everything including your apps), And bluetooth phone hands free calling. I grounded the parking break wire and I can also watch DVD's on it. It's also backup camera ready with AV inputs in the back and of course SIRIUS/XM radio too. Oh and one more thing, the screen is removable! I think there is a newer model, but if you can find one of these at a discount I highly recommend it.

As far as the install had to purchase the steering wheel control cable, wiring harness, dash kit and radio antenna and I got all that from Enfig Car Stereo - iPod XM and Sirius Satellite Radio & Auxiliary AUX Audio input specialists << EnfigCarStereo.com iPod XM and Sirius Satellite Radio & Auxiliary AUX Audio input specialists
Just tell them what brand of unit you are buying and they will let you know everything you need to buy. I had some ground/feedback issues with the BOSE amp that came in my car and I bought 2 ground loop isolators from radioshack and they fixed the problem. I had heard the BOSE amp is touchy with aftermarket units, however if you have the BOSE setup you will just run RCA's instead of speaker wire which is nice.

Anyways I can post pics tomorrow in the daylight. The unit, and all the parts were all around $1,000 total, but its well worth it. I sold my OEM RNSE on ebay and I basically paid for the new one with the funds from that.

Default Nothing Yet

I didn't end up installing anything because of some of the complexities described by etsmith. Just doesn't seem worth the headache at this point.

The unit you guys talking about has upgraded to the latest s100 audi a3 navigation autoradio
Seems that etsmith has installed an head unit and brought another module for steering wheel control separately.
Actually, the aftermarket head units now can support the original steering wheel controls via CANBUS decoder perfectly. No need to buy anything else to make the unit work on your vehicle, no matter your vehicle is nose or non-bose.

Default Yay

Thanks Allenwong,
Been poking around trying to find something that will work with the used 2013 Audi A3 I just bought yesterday. The audio system was the one thing I didn't play around with a lot and I was very disappointed that although it takes calls through bluetooth, that it has no iphone podcast or ipod connectivity. But, this looks like it will definitely do the trick. And love that I should be able to use the steering wheel controls with it. Im gonna see if there are any newer updates to this version, since your post was almost 2 years old.

Thinking of buying this head unit and i wondered if there was anything else I need to get for the unit to fully work? I've got a a3 2.0 tdi 2011 with multifunction steering wheel, will it fit straight in? Cheers

Yes, it is totally plug and play. All items will be included. No need to buy anything else to make it work.

I have an older A3 and got a Dension Gateway 5 which works wonderfully. I have iPod/iphone bluetooth, USB, and auxiliary all with original radio and both radio and speedometer screens working along with steering wheel controls.
