APR Top Speed Claims
Well,
I RE-confirmed my findings that I experieced this past Sunday today. The top speed for my APR chipped A3 is.... 140mph. The tests were done at my expense on a local tollway. For those of you that live or visted southern california, my runs were done on the 241 Tollway heading North to the 91 freeway.
So the gripes. First run was done Sunday morning around 8:45pm. I pay my toll, say "thank you" to the toll lady and proceed with caution for 40 yards to look for camping po-po's. I shift into 'S' mode and off we go. 40mph, 60mph.... 110... 135. I start to smile because THERE WAS SO MUCH MORE POWER LEFT for the lil 2.0, especially with the aid for the 20 degree downhilll slope. THEN the car is choked! I see my RPMS at 4.5k drop slowly.... the gas pedal doesn't respond. I check the cluster for other signs, nothing. EPC, Check Engine, Traction Control Dude, Temp, GAS, say all is a-OK.
The car come back alive at 130mph and I decide to give it another shot. I EASE the gas and climb to 140mph gaining 2mph every 1 sec. Then the car again is choked. The fuel is cutoff, I flutter the gas and get nothing. I begin to relaize that APR doesn't seem to take off the speed limiter for the A3.
Now I am not pissed or anything. I will probably never have the chance to rocket to 140+. I just needed to satify the curiosity of how fast this lil car could go. But sadly its 140mph. 140mph.... I was hoping for 160mph and possibly 170mph with the aid of the slope but nope its 140mph. I will probably call APR tomorrow and see what they say but I doubt they can do anything. I saw the tech at EuroCode tuning do my install and there is really no way a mistake could've happened. Hope you other chippers can go faster

I don't see anything on APR's website re: removing the speed limiter (or as the English say, the governor).

Nor on Revo's.

RE: APR Top Speed Claims
I was at ECodeTuning last night for my APR reflash and I asked David about this "speed limiter" issue. He said that APR software does remove the speed limiter (not that I would have the opportunity to test this, even though I have Fastrak). He said that perhaps you were heat-soaked, and hence the fuel cut-off. At 9am the toll roads are pretty hot already this time of the year, and you did have to stop to pay the toll. Do let us know what APR says about this.

How much power has your A3 got? I'm just curious as I think you would struggle to hit 160mph, let alone 170mph even with say 250bhp.
Drag is the limiting factor, and as drag squares with speed, you may struggle.
But good ***** on going that fast on a piblic highway!

I'm stage II with turbo back exhaust. I had plenty of power to go past 140 for sure. Plus I was on a downward slope with the assistance of gravity. Not sure about heat soak but I'll look into it. Temp was around 73 F at that time. Now that I know my top speed I wont be going up there as much anymore.

A3Night, I don't know about heat-soaking because I was driving my A3 at Willowsprings and the track temp was 167 deg (air temp was 106) and I was cranking the car up to 120mph on just a 1/2 mile straight with no problems. I will say this though, when I take my car to get dyno'd, the horsepower plummets after 6800 rpms. Peak hp is around 6000 rpms. You said you saw 4.7k rpms at 135 but my car reads 6.2k rpms when I hit 135mph. Maybe the A3 engine just runs out off power at 140mph or 6800rpms. When I was at the track, I saw my tach hit 7k rpms a few times but I couldn't go any faster at that point and either shifted or just rode it out until the next turn. What do you think?

you go ahead and hit 140, i've only gotten to 135 and was scared to go any faster, and i don't think those stock tires can go 150+, i think you need some Z rated tires for that.
