David usually sends and email confirmation and receipt for the chip. I'd just bring back a copy of the dealer reflash for Pacific Audi and a copy of your Eurocode receipt and give it a try. I'm sure they'd work something out. One of Pacific Audi's master mechanics also works for David at Eurocode.

ORIGINAL: Chef
The service rep did tell me that Audi wanted to know how many people had reflashed their ECU's with aftermarket companies and to have them listed. Seems like a campaign to deny any warranty service to me.
It might be, it could also be for reliability/service analysis of modified A3's as well as marketing. Consider a buyer buys a A3 and spends additional money on aftermarket improvements, if I was Audi I would view this as demand for a USA version of an S3, possibly in sportback form. Audi is just loosing revenue by being conservative on what comes to USA.

Yeah, I agree. I told the rep that Audi needed to step up like Toyota and have a full racing aftermarket program run by the dealers. They could safely modify the cars and have much more revenue. The beauty of the FSI engine could so easily be exploited by the dealers without any warranty issues whatsoever. BTW, I did talk with the Matt, the mechanic at Pacific Audi, about the reflash and he said who cares. We already have good software with the chip, so why worry about the Audi reflash? Good advice, but he doesn't control my warranty with Audi.

Cheers!

1. Let the dealer reflash the ECU and do NOT mention you have a chipped ECU, so your car will still be covered under warantee. You just have to reflash with APR or REVO after the dealer reflashes it. Although I heard from other forums some cars may not be able to do a reflash with APR or any other chip again after the flash from dealer.

.........

I just did a APR Stage 2 upgrade and the mods are pretty obvious too. They have to know that I'm chipped with the APR Exhaust. If they reflash the ECU, Won't it throw a CEL on the APR Downpipe? What will they do about it?
I'm going to be in this boat soon myself. Can anyone confirm if this is true? That you can not reflash with APR software after the dealer upgrade?

I also have plans to eventually go with a downpipe and stage 2 ecu upgrade, i'd hate to spend all this money to end up with nothing but a check engine light and useless exhaust system. Not to mention a slow car. Think its time to give Eurocode a call and get their opinion.

Rather than basing your future actions on hearsay... don't you think it would be best to ask the APR guys themselves? Just send them an e-mail with the question, I'm pretty sure they have the answers, and you get it from a reliable source.

Hi Chef,

Sorry to hear you had such a bad week. But on the other hand, consider yourself really lucky that your wife had borrowed your A3 and that you are unharmed!

I wanted to get my car chipped this month, but the dealer performed the ECU flash last Monday (and also had to replace the fuel pressure sensor). I guess I'll hold off a bit until we know exactly what's going on with warranty issues, reflash possibility and maybe also until the Tuners are able to accomodate the latest Audi update (CEL fix).

On an interesting sidenote, my dealer (Santa Monica Audi) did NOT ask me about "upgrades" at all. I took it in because of the CEL light and they told me that they would also perform an ECU flash as my car was also one of the recalled ones. That's it!

"Always look on the bright side of life, da dam, da dam da dam da dam..."

I spoke with Eurocode Tuning today. He assured me that APR has already developed an update to accomidate this new ECU update from Audi. Lets squash this rumor now before it gets out of control. My concerns are gone.

So the decision now is:

2. Tell them you are chipped and sign that paper saying about warantee issues with chipped ECU

Which way to go?

I just did a APR Stage 2 upgrade and the mods are pretty obvious too. They have to know that I'm chipped with the APR Exhaust. If they reflash the ECU, Won't it throw a CEL on the APR Downpipe? What will they do about it?
So best bet is to stick with option 1? there will be a CEL after the dealer flash because of the APR downpipe, I wonder what the dealer will do

yeah, option 1 is best. Don't lie to them, but don't ask, don't tell.

the downpipe causing a CEL after the flash could be an issue though. Maybe Chef's approach is best afterall....

Newbie is confused (referring to me)... can't you have a down pipe and no ecu reprograming?
