MB: I took my Dad's valentine detector and the thing worked like a champ until he decided to ebay it because he was not using it that much. I compared it to another 100$ detector we have and you could tell the difference in performance but there is a big price difference. I didn't try to hide it because my situation is different from roberts, if I get pulled over ill just hide it haha.

What if your driving in a group of cars and your car is in the middle or rear of the pack will the cars in front of you block the detector?(unit that is installed low in your frt bumper)

I just purchased the V1 for the srt8, this type of detector is kind of out of my league, (haven't read up on these yet)

Or is the unit in front of the rear view mirror the detector? Please educate me.

Stryker: I think most people get their dectectors custom installed so they are out of site because they are illegal in some states but if its not illegal where you live then id save the money and the hassle and just use your V1 however you have been using it. Over here in socal, im pretty sure it isnt illegal, but my dad checked out getting a system installed in his car and got quoted $2500 so he just used his V1 attaching it to his sun visor I believe and it saved him a few tickets and worked just fine.

Nice install! Got any pics of the rear laser? Does it interfere with the cargo shelf when you raise the hatch?
Here's the pic of the rear lasar receiver. It is a bit hard to see, but it'soff to the side of the cargo shelf. It is not the best position, but the easiest place to install it. The lasar receiver really only tells you when you're nabbed, not much you can do at that point, so I didn't worry about it's location.

The rear view mirror reciever is a lasar receiver. The low mount of the radar receiver in the lower grill can reduce the effectiveness, but I've never noticed a problem after using this detector for 6 years. Radar wave bounce around so much that I've always had plenty of time to slow down. I do notice reduced distance with the whistler detector in my Miata, which is about the same height, so I think it is due to the cheaper detector having less sensitivity. Also, if you're in a pack of cars, you are probably not going to be the one nabbed.

Detectors that aren't hidden are also likely to get stolen. That is what happened to me and why I went concealed. I had my car window smashed and my escort was grabbed. So if you do go with a visor mount, think about putting it away every time you park the car. Especially a V1, people know what those cost.

I put a Beltronics LR Remote in my A3. It is a very good detector, much better than the Whistler remote I have in my Miata. I really like it and have had it in my last 3 cars. It has the radar receiver in the lower grill, front lasar behind the rearview mirror and rear lasar sitting beside the parcel shelf in back. Some pictures are below.

How hard was it to get the wire from the front lower grill to inside the car? How did you go about it?
I am 100% confident about my ability to get it to the rear shelf like you have and the rearview... but not sure how I am going to get the wire from under the hood.

Thansk!

There is a rubber boot down where the steering column meets the firewall. That is the best place to come through, IMO.

Cheers!

Exactly what I was gonna say!

If you look at the write up for installing a boost gauge, you can see a pretty good picture of said boot and where it is located.
