Default Decisions, Decisions...

Hi. I'm Jeff. I just joined these forums, I have been looking around at these forums for quite a bit now. Finally decided it was time to join.

Pic of when I first for the car, couple months ago.

Now to the real deal. This Audi A3 was a gift from my Dad when I turned 17, car has about 5K Miles on it and I've owned it for couple months.

My Dad also owns an Audi A3 - a white 3.2L Quattro with about every option you can think of. Just a great freaking car, and I fell in love with the Audi the minute I drove his which is why I went straight for an Audi.

My Dad doesn't mind me doing things on the "outside/for the looks of the car" things. I personally don't really mind, cause I love how it already looks. I got some 15% tints, a radar detector, etc.. The essentials. Now I'm looking for performance.

Performance, now that's something my Dad really doesn't want me to **** around with. He really doesn't want me to make my car faster but that's all I like. Speed, power, sound, etc...

I kinda got him to let me maybe buy an exhaust, and intake , etc... I work so money isn't the issue. It's kinda getting past him that's the hard part.

I need your help with this. I haven't done anything performance wise on the car, and my question is;

Not including chip( he won't let me, trust me, I already tried) or anything too powerful. I need little mods like intake, etc..

What should I look forward to saving for the future? That's my question? What mod, what brand, etc... What do you guys think I should gofor? I kinda like need a list of mods to look forward to in later months to save up for and organize.

Well, I'm a dad so I understand the concern. I want my son to drive a very safe car that is somewhat underpowered. I could tell you a lot of ways to make the car faster, but now I sit at a crossroads of what is proper.[sm=teetertooter.gif]

If you want performance, then the best mod without getting a chip would be the full exhaust. Just be aware that a full flowing exhaust will throw a CEL and need to be adjusted. The best method is with a stage II chip, but for you??? Something to investigate. But, that mod will give you 15+hp without a chip upgrade. The CAI will just make that mod all the better and give a couple more horses. Obviously, the chip would unleash the full beast.

Do me a favor and respect your dad's wishes. It won't be long before he allows you to have a chip, but you need to prove yourself first and give him time. Just relax, take it easy, and enjoy what you have.

Cheers!

The best performance mod?

The best performance mod is to fix the nut behind the wheel. Seriously, learn how to drive safely. Check with your local regional Audi club for details.....

Trust me, please, seriously, the A3 is quick enough and fast enough to get anyone into trouble. The real deal isn't how to modify the car, but how to get the most out of the driver.

Yuu could always go chip it and switch it back to stock AND use lockout to conceal it . You'll save major coin from all the other perf mods.

Yes, bad advice but I was 17 once... just be careful... I was a real reckless driver when I got my license but luckily I haven't had an accident since.

Yeah im 17 and have allready been thru 2 cars and have paid for both so i have learned my lesson. you can have plenty of fun not driving recclessly. Not saying that you are going to or anything but. Oh and by the way go for the exhaust. The sound is oh so sweet.

Hi All-

Pay attention on the roadways and drive your A3 conservatively! Do your best to be a wreckless driver!

Thank you for all your replies.

From my point of view, I love a car that sounds nice. It goes fast enough for now, but how about making the car sound nice? An exhaust my Dad would let me get, so that's definetly one of the top mods I would do and intake.

I will probly go up to that and stop at that for a bit. Now to help me out a little bit, for an exhaust? Should I go APR? I always read and always liked their products?

For intake?

I like it, but it's really not something I'd want to spend my money on.

I really want something I can pop my hood and be like, "now that's my baby." I want something very good for the car and something that stands out. Like I read on the other threads ( the EVOMS intake)like this beauty of an intake, and from what I read, it seems like's its worth it.

What would be the right intake?

OMFG!

I've never seen the Carbonio intake before! Ignore everything I've ever said about induction kits. I so want one of those!

Can anyone see any problem with using one of these with my K&N rather than their foam jobbie?

(Sorry Lutenist. I've hijacked your thread )

rich, it'll work just fine. Their foam 'jobbie' as you put it is just a stock replacement, in the stock location. same as the k&n drop in filter.
