Drop and Alignment

Drop and Alignment
I search and no luck with finding the answer I want. My question: can I lower my A3 fwdsay with the Vogtland springs and be able to have an alignment done correctly? the Drop is about 1.5 f / 1.4 rear. Or will H&R springs be easier to align back up? I dont feel like running thru tires back my camber cant be set right. What do you think?
Thanks,
Patrick

RE: Drop and Alignment
Hi whitemax,
I'm sorry, I don't know if there is a difference between the Vogtlands and the H&R in terms of alignment. I do suggest, however, that after you drop the car, wait a couple of weeks before you do the alignment. Once the car has settled in better at the new height the alignment will be better.

RE: Drop and Alignment
It's all geometry - the brand of springs makes no difference. Remember that factory alignments are designed for nice safe understeer and long tire wear, not best handling. TPE_A3 is correct - let things settle in a couple weeks before having the alignment done. A performance alignment for an A3 might be something like F 1- 1.5 degrees negative camber and 1/8" toe-out. and 1/8" toe-in in the rear. A stock alignment would be closer to front 1/8" total toe-in and zero camber, still 1/8" total toe-in rear. A race alignment would add another couple degrees to the front camber (-3 total) with the same toe settings, maybe a 3/16 in the front, but beyond that would make the car squirrelly. As long as you don't go beyod a degree of camber and 1/8 of toe your tire wear should be minimal.
