fan not shutting off when engine is turned off
I have a new 2011 A3 with about 1300 miles on it. On 4 occassions now, when I have turned the engine off the fan motor continued to run. I assumed that this was because the engine needed to cool down a bit so the fan stayed on and that was exactly what the dealer told me. The big question for me is why when I restarted the car and then immediately turned it off, the fan motor turned off as expected. Can't imagine in the 3 seconds that it took to start and stop the engine that the right temperature was sensed and the motor stopped. With a little internet checking, I found several incidents of the same description but the owners just left the car and went inside only to discover a dead battery in the morning. Seems like the fan never did turn off all night. Sounds to me like a bad sensor or bad computer module/programming which is not functioning correctly. Anyone else out the experience this?? The dealer did not have an explanation for the restart/stop terminating the fan.
