Getting car chipped do I need to change the DV(2008 model)?
Hi guys,
Im getting my car chipped witht he APR program tomorrow and I was wondering if its absolutly necessary to get the DV changed as well. Ive read quite a bit of the post that say yes but I remember like I read a post somewhere which mentioned that the 2008 models have an upgraded DV. I cant seem to find any more information on this and yes I have searched through the forum. Im just wondering if anyone here with a 2008 car is chipped but without changing the DV. Also im thinking of going with the APR R1 does anyone have it in their cars and if so how is you experience with it?
My car is a 2008 2.0T with DSG.
Thank you.

I have same setup with GIAC reflash and haven't changed the DV. I'm thinking about the Forge DV designed for the 08 as a next step. I'm told the 08 has a different DV (selenoid operated) but haven't heard anyone complaining about it yet.Get ready to wake up the little monster and have fun.

It is not required to upgrade your DV, but is strongly recommended. Eventually the stock diaphragm in theDV will tear once you chip the car; I like to think of it as a requirement to replace the DV when chipping a car to avoid issues in the future and dealing with a failed DV. As for the R1, it is designed for the 2.7T in the S4/A6. Check out Forge, most people on the forum use their DV's. Here is a link to the A3 http://www.forgemotorsport.com/conte...roduct=FMFSITV

No, you leak boost from the turbo and it will most likely start with a little loss, then get greater with time. That is where the investment in a boost gauge comes in handy. I had a leak in one of my vacuum lines recently, and my car wouldn't hold boost over 10psi, and the gauge helped to troubleshoot the problem. Just put it on your list of things to do after you chip the car.
Cheers!

I've had the car chipped for almost 2 years and still using the stock DV. I'm anticipating it going at some point - but it hasn't torn yet. I know this because my boost pressure is right where it's supposed to be. Chef is right - pressure gauge will let you know when it's going.

Guys,
Had this in another thread but no bites...
Any creedance in the thread below. Im mulling the DV at the moment. Im a Ch.E. not an M.E. so the report will take more time to digest.

Seems to suggest that Forge may increase stress on the turbo because of the way it actuates. Old news? [align=right]
