Default Holy Crap thats a fast GTI!

Reference a article from CARToday
"Not to be outdone by its otherwise conservative stable mate, Volkswagen has also stepped up to the plate at this year’s Wörthersee show with what can only be described as a Golf that makes the R36 look like a golf cart! The VW Golf GTI W12-650 is the result of Volkswagen ripping the back seats out of the standard GTI and slotting the 6.0-litre W12 engine from the Phaeton in their place.
The Biturbo W12 engine develops a devastating 477 kW at 6 000 r/min and 750 N.m of torque directed to the rear wheels via the company’s six-speed DSG gearbox.
According to Volkswagen, the 0-100 km/h sprint takes just 3.7 seconds on the way to a 325 km/h top speed – that’s close to the sort of performance you’d get from a Porsche 911 Turbo."

So if you not happy with your A3 being slower than a EVO just take this approach and nobody will be faster then you!

Now VWVortex has a article on the VW Golf W12-650
- VW claims a top speed of 202 mph
- 6.0l W12 12-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine mounted in the back seat of the GTI
- 650hp and 553 lb-ft. of torque (!)
- with the flared fenders the car sits over 6 feet wide and only 4.6 feet tall
- 19" wheels with 295 rear rubber and 235 front rubber
- the fenders are flared 3.15" at the rear
and better pictures available now.

Ya just gotta wonder how they dealt with weight balance dropping the engine in the back with such a short wheelbase. I mean it's not like it's rocket science, but still non-trivial. In a stright line I'm sure it's insane, I'd question the predictability of it in the turns.

Jeez...buckle-up and hold on tight! For such outrageously wild high-performance capability, it looks fairly "normal" as far as vehicles go.

I saw the thread in the off-topic section and I am going to repeat what I said:

Hey look, a coffin with wheels!

Looks mean but sorry, it is overkill. A W12 in a golf? An exercise in futility. Of course, if they give it to me I'll take it!
The other problem with this, as far as I am concerned, is that they have to employ a W12 biturbo with 650 hp and 552 of torquein order to get the results. I am amazed that they can make it fit and it has to be an engineer prowess but I am not impressed with the end results and to me it is counter nature to a GTI as a category. At least the 911 turbo has the good sense of using 6 cylinders Turbo in order to get the same result.

Like I said, I would take it if they give it to me!!!

It would be quite entertaining to see how both would compare at a track (911 turbo versus W12).
