Always driven manuals, love the 6 speed...

 

I love the 6spd, but my wife wishes I got the DSG... She's not a fan oftraffic with a manual.

Just means I get to drive it even more

 

considering my old allroad was manual, no doubt my a3 is too. test drove the dsg and the 1st 10 minutes were impressive, but after that i got just about as bored as i get in any other automatic car. nice technology, but still feels like i'm driving a golf cart.

 

Manual.

I test drove the DSG and it felt like playing a video game to me...

 

love stick, so glad my dad made me learn it on my first car, a 1979 Datsun 710 wagon.
i've only had one automatic, and i hated it! will never buy one again. i'm still amazed people don't know how to drive a manual trans.
now that i think back, i guess i really learned on our old John Deere tractor..haha..

 

6 speed. My son has a new Jetta with the DSG. I've driven his and I'll take the stick.

 

6MT here. Dealer loaned me a DSG when mine was in for regular service....it was fun and different, but the novelty was over and I was done with it by the time I turned it in at the end of the day.

 

A question for all you manual drivers: how do you talk on the cell phone, drink coffee and smoke while driving with a manual
seriously, what do you do when you get a phone call?

 

I'll try to tackle options for each of these, as I don't have a manual or smoke.
1. Cell Phone - Get a hands free headset or get bluetooth (OEM or aftermarket) for your ride.
2. Drink Coffee - Get a giant straw or better yet: a trucker hat, which holds your liquids and has two straws for you to drink them.
3. Smoke - Get a cigarette holder and learn to smoke without actually taking it out of your mouth?

In all seriousness, it takes a bit of patience and practice I'm sure.

 

Very cool...my 1st car was a 1979 Datsun 810 (but it was an auto). That thing was a blast to drive...too bad it was ugly as sin! It was nave blue, except where the paint was faded. The door could be opened with a slim jim in about 3-5 seconds, the transmission slipped so I had to start in 2 instead of D. I beat that car like a rented mule and the only things I had to replace were the alternator and the radiator. My grandma was the original owner. I got the car in 91 or 92 and kept it until 94. I think it had about 250k miles on it when I sold it.
