Default ipod adapter and music display

Hooked up my ipod/nano to the ipod adapter for the first time today - I knew about the limitation of only accessing the first five playlists, but I didn't know that the stereo display shows _no_ information ... no playlist names, no song titles, etc. Can that possibly be right? If so, that is just ... weak

Yep, it's very weak. Time to upgrade!

Yea the iPod setup is disappointing and very 1999. I've done some research for after-market Digital media solutions...and to my surprise no one - Alpine, JBL, Pioneer, etc. etc. etc. - has made a "harness" (what holds the media player) for a 2008 A3 yet...what are they waiting for??? Anyone else have any luck???[:@]

As if getting an ipod connected weren't tough enough, anyone have any advice about connecting an iphone ...throw some hands-free calling into the mix? I imagine sound would work same as the ipod but it would get more complicated with the microphone?

As some may know, I'm in search of a used 06/07 A3. I don't plan on getting the ipod adapter, but I do plan on using my ipod all the time. My old truck had an Alpine deck with the aux in the back, and I ran some RCA cables through my center console to plug directly into my ipod. The sound was excellent! But now I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my A3 once I get it. Should I go the same route and buy an aftermarket deck w/ Aux capability? The wires weren't a problem for my truck because they were hidden under the center console, and I just drilled a hole where my cup holder was and that left about 4 inchs of cable to plug into the ipod. Now I don't really plan on "drilling" through my Audi console, but without the ipod adapter (which, from what I've read, sucks), what is my best bet for achieving ipod quality?

EDIT: No intention on a thread hijack, just hope others are in the same boat.

I'm thinking that you might be best off justbuying a later build 2008 which has an Aux connection in the arm rest. Yes it'll be a bit more money up front, however, you won't have to dick around with an aftermarket unit (which will most likely mean that you'll lose the use of the steering wheel controls).
