Default Kool-it Evaporator cleaner: DIY?

I purchased a used Audi A3 recently and noticed an odd odor in the car the warmer the weather got. I did the the suggestions offered online: changed the air cabin filter and sprayed at several different times both Ozium and Lysol into incoming outside air vents, into the inside car vents and under the glove compartment. Still have a "non-fresh" smell coming from the fans so I'm going to Plan B - buying some Kool-it Evaporator Cleaner and so here is my question for the gurus.... Since I'm not a mechanic and don't really work on cars... but would love to avoid going to Audi dealership to pay them for servicing the car, there are two ways to use the Kool-it product:
1) Spraying it via the evaporator drain plug (I don't even know where this is...) or
2) Using the long spray tube and spraying the product from the inside air vents.

Thoughts about the effectiveness of each?
I think I could tackle # 2, but definitely not #1.

Thanks

If that requires some of the inner parts cleaning, I would rather bring the car to the station. The same as with engine cleaning. Never do it yourself. Even with the car body cleaning and grime remove you must be a bit careful to keep the paint safe. At least if you use the washer, you can regulate that by means of changing the nozzles.
