I suspect consensus will be that the Valentine is the industry standard. I use a Belltronics 995 and it's paid for itself many times in saves.

I have the Escort 9500i and it works great, but you'll need a laser jammer to cover all bases, as the detector will just tell you when your caught with laser, but usually advanced warning with any other radar. FWIK, the wireless refresh rate isn't quick enough to catch the instant on radar, so you're best to keep with a wired module, although you can still have stealth installs. Personally, I like the GPS feature on the Escort so I don't hear the same false signal everytime I drive by the 7-11.

Cheers!

I have a wireless escort (forget the model number) but it is great, or should I say was until I moved to VA where detectors are illegal. But I still use when i go on long drives in MD or PA and it has saved me a couple times. +1 on what chef said on laser jammer all you get when you are hit with laser is a your Fvcked sound. I have heard really bad things about cobra detectors. hope this helps and good luck.

PS you could always just save the money and drive the speed limit....hahaha who am I kidding?[8D]

my model mounts to the windshield the only problem i have had with it is that it tends to bump up and down i solved this by mounting it (via suction cups provided) low to the dash so it rests on the dash.

here isa link to theCnet.com review of my model http://reviews.cnet.com/radar-detect...-30690133.html

There are a bunch of websites that review different detectors just google it (although be careful when googleing escort )

I use a Beltronics as well (forget which model) but it has saved my butt numerous times on I5 in CA as well as in AZ and NV highways. Mounts on my windshield near the top with the included suction cups and it's been fine up there for several months now.

I've had a wired one before and it was a pain to set up and got in the way. What's the deal with stealth installs?

I swear by my Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector. It has paid for itself and then some in the 11 months that I have had it. Get the red one, it matches the red color of theAudi instrument panel.

Wireless detectors don't have the same performanace as the wired ones. I would go with a wired detector unless you really want a wireless one. With the wireless one you have to deal with the batteries and all that stuff.

A few months ago I was reading a thread about a stealth install on the rear view mirror. It looked great! Maybe you can dig that up.
