Is Nav Worth It?
Given that Nav is a $3300 add (MSRP) and $3003 (Invoice), is it worth it? In my mind, it's not as that is way too much to pay for a Nav system.
Anyone with Nav regret paying the extra or glad you did?
Anyone without Nav wish they had paid the extra to get it?

I do think the NAV system is over-priced, but for some people its needed.
I didnt get it and dont need it. But, I like the look of it and it makes that entire console look even sharper and more techy.
My A3 will be arriving in 3-4 weeks, and im pretty sure I wont regret NOT getting the NAV.

Yeah, it's spendy. Not sure if it's totally worth that price, but it is a pretty nice system. I have only spent time at a couple of dealers playing with it. One car was used and it was kinda cool that I could go through it's log and see where they had been!
But besides being a navigation system (and a very good one!) it is other things;
-> Your MMI (multimedia style interface) to other system controls like radio, bluetooth, etc... It's cool to see your radio stations on this display...
-> The two memory card slots holding MP3s is certainly worth something. Anyone who wants to interface their iPod is spending close to $500 in some installs and not getting the total system integration of being able to see song titles or controlling song switching from the steering wheel.
I ordered it with my car.

remember the NAV comes with the audio package, which is a 900 option. putting the nav cost a bit over 2000, which is more in line with other makes nav systems, but still expensive. Most i've seen go from 1500-1800 or so. I got it, and i love it, the MP3 capability is another plus that makes it worth it for me. Also, not being touch screen has it's benefits too, like no unavoidable fingerprints.
If you check out the pricing at edmunds.com et al, you will see that Navi includes the Bose Audio upgrade. This accounts for $1300 of the total $3300. That puts the price for Navi at $2000 which is comparable to other cars. But in my opinion you get so much more. You get 2 built-in SD media slots. These can hold a total of 800 songs (400 per card) or about 4 gig total. You also get the 6-cd changer in the glove box and the option to use the cd slot in the headunit to hold the navi disc, CD-R with MP3s, and also I have heard DVD+R with MP3s. One final bonus, for those that have Phatbox you can swap out the 6cd changer for a 20gig HD which is not an option without the Navi.
These above reasons are the real reasons I chose the Navi when I bought my A3. Also the Navi offers a birds-eye 3D view which I find better than a flat overhead view. The birds-eye view is like the one in my Infiniti G35 and is useful to scope out the road ahead especially if you are driving unfamiliar twisty roads. I am glad I got it.

I am SOOOOoo glad I got the Nav/Sound package.
It's only been a day, but already I can see how it's much more than just a navigation system to compare to some aftermarket 'suction cup' me to the dashboard job...
I knew it served as some controls for the car, but now that I have thoroughly gone through every menu it has to offer I can see the functionality and it makes such sense. Very intuitive in my opinion. You use the flat screen for all these functions;
1) Navigation
2) Bluetooth Phone integration
3) Radio (AM/FM/Sirius)
4) CD/MP3
Let's see, can't think of anything else at the moment, but in addition, as was said before, you are getting an upgraded sound system with better speakers, CD changer, and SD card slots. The bluetooth features are especially surprising and cool to me. I didn't realize it could get my phone directory out of the phone. And it even displays the signal strength of my phone on the flatpanel! (You know, the little bar graph thingy)

the only definate downside is the damn warning screen that you must accept every time you power on the car. I'd gladly sign a contract saying i'm aware that using it while driving is dangerous and waive all rights to sue for this reason to get rid of it. it's too bad that's not an option.
yeah! Right on with that... I can see where that will get annoying.
I figured there has to be some sort of secret mechanics switch sequence that can get rid of it. Hopefully it will get posted here some day.
