Official rear view camera retrofit - worth it?
As per the title, I am considering retrofitting the Audi rear view camera on an A3 8y 40 TDI quattro.
The car is from 2023, under warranty until 2028, and has 20,000 km (~ 12,500 mi).
As per the car's specs, it has the interior and exterior sline package with sports seats and flat-bottom steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, full LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors with park assist, audi drive select, audi pre sense front, ambient light package.
For the original camera + labor, the cost is around € 770 (~ $ 800).
With this thread, I would like to collect your opinions to understand whether it is worth it. Personally, I'm fine with the sensors, but living in an area with some rural roads, and often having to maneuver when you get "stuck" in narrow streets with other cars, I think the rear camera could be a useful add-on, especially for particularly low obstacles that might not be detected by the rear sensors (it's probably my problem, but I don't trust the sensors 100%...). On the other hand, spending almost 800 euros for a rear camera is quite a cost. And unfortunately I can't evaluate other aftermarket options, since the car is under Audi extended warranty and thus I would risk losing the warranty if I installed non-original accessories or perform the installation in an non-affiliated dealer shop.
For those of you who have this accessory or have had the opportunity to try it on the new A3, what do you think? Is this additional expense worth it or are the sensors enough?
