Potential New A3 Owner...am I getting a good deal?
Hello, as the title says, I am about to become an Audi owner. I just closed a deal on a 2009 A3 and would like to know if you all think I am getting a good price. The car has the following:
2009 A3, Silver with Black leather interior
14,000 miles on the odometer/remaining factory warranty
Front-wheel Drive
Automatic
1-owner, CarFax Certified
Premium Package
Panoramic Sunroof
I agreed to $21,995.00 including a trade-in ($3,500), down from a $26K asking price. The car is in very good condition. Only minor cosmetic flaws including a few rock chips and some curb rash on a few of the wheels. Other than that, its a sharp detailed A3. It was the color combo I have been looking for too. Only options it doesn't have that I would have liked was the Cold Weather Package and the Conveinience Package. So, what do you think of the deal?

Find a web site that gives you the dealer's invoice price with your specific options. Then add 3%. That's the price you should be targeting. If there are holdbacks or incentives you can deduct those, however, there weren't any on the A3 in February, and they usually only have them on cars that are not selling that well.
Now for your trade-in, anything's possible there at any given time as to what's fair.

So, I asked the question about me "getting a good deal" because I really haven't done a ton of research on what 2009+ A3's with only 14K miles are going for. I know what the websites tell me, but I was just looking for some real-world figures from other A3 owners. Based on everything I've seen, I think I made a good deal, and am getting a good price on my trade-in.
I will be picking up the car later this week. Can't wait!

I read somewhere that the Audi's were in the top ten of the highest resale values for two year old cars. (Percentage wise of course) The A3 was listed as 68%, but I'm not sure if that is trade-in, private party or retail resale value.
So, for instance, a new Audi A3 with the options you list goes for $33,200 MSRP excluding tax.
33,200 * 68% = $22,576
So, based on that very rough calculation, I would have said $26K is way too much (but then dealers always do that), but $21,995 is probably fair and reasonable even if my calculations are somewhat off, considering it is about 6000 miles below the average mileage.

Yeah, NADA, KBB, Edmunds, and Vehix all place the average retail price of an A3 with this mileage, condition, and options around $25K retail. Fact is, there are only 4 used 2009+ A3's for sale within a 100 mile radius of my town. So, there is not much to compare. So, I look at it like this... I am getting a practically brand new A3 for more than $10K less than new. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I'll post up with some pics and impressions later.
