Ryandlor;
I truly feel sorry for your misfortune and my condolences go out to your girl.
Was your low gas warning on?
LOL - I guess I was extremely lucky two weeks ago - getting out of one of the parking lots in Richmond. My trip computer was telling me I only had 20 miles of fuel left before being empty. Luckily my buddy and I were able to figure our way out to a gas station after the Henrico County police had diverted us all over west Richmond.
Actually thinking about it now and doing the math - I was pretty lucky. If I had gone down to 12.5 miles of fuel remaining then I would have gone up in a cloud of smoke. Please keep us in the loop with regards to the postmortem.
It may be a recall with all A3's from now on...."the Low Gas explosion" recall....

Look for a letter in your mail from AUDI!!!

lol

I call BS on the tech as well. I think just trying to get yo to commint to some made-up story. Actually, it does sound like the gsket gave out, especially with teh already hi-compression the 2.0T FSI engines have. Definitely PUSH and SHOVE for a new car!!! Same lease terms I guess. I would also have a business card of a lawyer in your wallet. That way, if they get you to sign anything unusual or anything stupid like that, just say "I will have to forward this to my attorney for review". MAYBE, they will change their story...Sorry about the HUGE headache this is causing you..hang in there...

Just out of curiosity, were you on the stock tune?

And the low gas thing has to be BS... there is a thread in another section talking about what happens when you get to 0 mi. left on the trip computer. Hint: The engine doesn't blow up. Who hasn't run out of gas at some point in their life?

UPDATE.

No, I am stock, no chip. Dealership ******** Audi in Toronto, says the black cloud and engine failure was due to a MISFIRE because the engine could not get gas. Im in shock....to say the least

So they drained the oil, (because of the white plume of smoke that came the day before) changed the filter, filled up the oil, and did a diagnostic and they say there is no problem.

then to solve the problem....they put gas in....and test drove it. They say there is no problem....

I am at a loss for words......whats my next step?

hmmm that's about right ( misfire ) is dangerous but nothing to do with lack of gas, what happens on a misfire is the timing shunts back making the combustion out of sink and if it were to do that enough it would break the con rods because it would be working against the pressure ( back fire ), there was a problem but they wont tell you because it will bring the tech down, they are protecting their workers

Just talked to the service tech and hes looking at my car. His original diagnosis before hooking up the Tool was that because it was low on gas...(perhaps 20km left in the tank) is that my engine was burning because it wasnt gettin any gas.....Can this guy be serious???? still cant get over that

that's a big dumb answer ( low on gas blew the engine up ) the guy dosnt know what hes talking about
tell me about it...and hes an AUDI certified technician...Thats the type of answer I would expect from a KIA tech guy...
Sounds like you'd be better off haivng a Kia service department take a look.

Im going to take it to another AUDI dealership and do a decent check of

fuel filter/fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator/ vac lines...

also check the cat converter for any damage. oxy sensors too. Then do a diagnosis on the fuel/air ratio.

One gentleman in another forum told me to check all this so i will.

Since it is under warranty, can I ask the dealership to do all this?

thanks for the support.

I am pushing for the new car, I dont want a new engine. Back story that this was a demo at 10k i leased, was Mrs. Pfaffs (audi dealers wife) car when i got the deal on the lease. I was honestly going to buy this car out at the end of my term, but obviously no chance now.

Not likeley, but has anyone else had an issue as big as this with a lease?

May I ask if the car is black and bought it in ontario recently....I think got aprice quoteon that car from "Jaqueline" over there..

What a shocker! I will call BS on the Tech too. I personaly ran out of gas on my A3. Didn't have the milage count down and thought I could make it the extra 40 miles to the next gas station but at 39 miles it sputered, lunged, and shut off. I tried the restart, gas it and go but the comp. wouldn't alow it. So I walked. No smoke plums no loud bang, just nothing. Oh and with the way these are designed with the computer it shuts the engine down before anything really bad can happen. Go to another dealer explain what you had happen but don't tell them what the other(idiot dealer) said. Good luck and keep us posted.
