very low MPG on 2015 A3
hey, i bought an A3 1.8T few weeks ago. Car drives beautifully, i have about 250 miles on it, but i am getting horrible low MPG, no more than 16 mpg (long memory) and 12mpg (short memory). I was told it will get better over time after 1000 miles, and that i have to drive long distances for the engine to break in. no check engine, premium gas always, no other problem.
Is this normal? Dealer offered to look at it and i may have to do that.

I have heard that before, but I have yet to get a new car so i could check it. I am, however getting the new A3 sportback e-tron when it comes out as long as the car has adaptive cruise control and is at least the same interior size as my current A3 sportback.
I recently bought the 2015 A3 Quattro 2.0L. I absolutely love the car. It drives well- is wonderfully built and looks elegant too. I have put maybe 1000 miles on it and it gives me maybe 21-23mpg roughly. Your mileage will improve over time, but it also depends on how you treat the vehicle in terms of driving style. (hard braking/heavy acceleration etc). The real test for my car will probbaly be in the winter months. Let me know if your mpg improves at all.
Thanks to everyone for your reply !!!
Update. I've been driving the car for long distances, like 200 miles trips over the weekend highway only. on the highway i get an mazing 33-34mpg. In the city, i still struggle with 16mpg. in the city my wife uses it to drive kids to school, that's a 5mile roundtrip. the other thing that i noticed is that the fuel tank is not balanced properly. let me explain it:
1. so the tank holds is 13.2 gallons
2. when i fill the gas tank when it is at half, it takes 5.8 gallons (you would like it will take half of 13.2).
3. when i fill the gas tank when it as at quarter left, then it takes 8.2 gallons.
so i started calculating manually and it seems like i get 18-20mpg in the city.
i am puzzled.
