Default wont start when warm.

I have an a3 1997 1.8 petrol, it starts every time from cold but wont start when warm. the problem has got worse over the last few weeks since it began. once it cools down it starts fine again. when it wont start the engine cranks over at normal speed, it just wont fire up.but today it cut out once it got up to temp. and the oil light came on which was a first. i checked oil and it was fine, the water container looked empty though, so i slowly undid water cap while still hot and it hissed, and the water came back into the container right up to the line. this may be normal. any ideas welcome as i'm trying to sell it but need to sort it out first...

I was scrolling thru old messages and saw this post...don't like to see unanswered posts.Did you ever figure it out? Vapor lock maybe? Check out the fuel pump or maybe a dirty fuel filter causing low fuel pressure.

I can see that its sort of pressure related..your fuel pump may have a defect or it can be a poorly produced amount of pressure from the dirty filter.
