Default RE: Turbo upgrade

Well, there is the T28 and the K04, which is a straight bolt up replacement. I've got the K04 myself and I'm very happy with it. You'll want to upgrade your DV if you replace the turbo, and you'll probably also want to do something with the exhaust. At least remove the factory mufflers and put something less restrictive on. Plugs are probably a good idea. Might want to give iridium plugs a try. They perform like copper tiip plugs but last like platinums.

srv54, sorry, I meant spark plugs. If they have never been changed, I'm sure they are due. At 100,000 your turbo should be ok, it really doesn't kick in until about 2250 RPM's anyway. At 2500 or so do feel it kick in at all? With the radio and the climate control off you should be able to hear it whistle a little bit. Have you had the timing belt and water pump changed? If not, I would do that first.

Audiboy, I paid $765.00 for the turbo and gaskets and $150.00 for the upgraded DV. Check out this link for the turbo...

Pro Imports

Hope this helps, let me know what you think of their site, they've got a great price on the turbo.

I just checked it and the price is $800.00, still better than anywhere else I've seen.

audiboy the reason some other kits are more expensive is because they come with things like new injectors and software upgrade which you should have if you get a k04 theses kits usualy go for about $1500

SlimChriz, good point. When I bought the K04, I'd already done the exhaust, chipped it and of course, did the DV at the same time. The ATW 1.8t comes with the bigger injectors, so I didn't need to do that. I had also put on a bigger fuel regulator on it. The one thing you really must do is chip it before you put in the new turbo. If you add everything up, I probably paid around $1300.00. I just couldn't do it all at once, wouldn't have gone over well with the finance department at my house...

As for the horsepower you'll add with the K04, who knows. I've heard everything from 230 to 280. When I'm done with all my mods I'm gonna get a few good 1/4 mile runs and figure out how much HP I've got that way. I don't know anyone with a dyno around here.
