Default 1.8T: Why still 170hp?

increasing that horsepower reliably is easy and cheap enough, no point in paying more for factory to boost you.

Default 1.8T: Why still 170hp?

the 180hp in the TT is not quite the same motor as the A4. The TT 180hp motor is mounted transversly as opposed to the A4 platform where it is mounted longitudinally.

As a result of the transverse mounting, the TT is allowed a much more free flowing exhaust design. The TT also has a different intake set up, and the programming is also different.

As far as I know, 170hp is here to stay for at least another model year. In the grand scheme of things, 10hp is nothing. A chip will put you at over 200hp, and I highly recommend doing that.

As for the comment about 30% loss...that is untrue. An A4 quattro with manual transmission suffers a 22%-25% drivetrain lost at most. 30 is far fetched.
