I chipped my 98.5 sedan 1.8t at 90Kmiles. now at 102K.

I have experienced better gas mileage during normal driving (from 350 m/tank to about 400 m/tank), and of course reduced mileage when I am pounding the accelerator for some fun. Experienced no difficulty starting, no problems at all that I can see.

I went with a GIAC chip and am very pleased, and sorry that I never did this sooner. People say it might reduce the life of the turbo. Its possible, but the K03 is rated to handle 20 psi, and I normally only peak at 18 psi on full boost.

just dont forget to invest in some precausionary measures, there are .9, 1 and 1.1 bar chips for 1.8T

since 1 bar = 14.5 PSI thats a pretty big increase from stock 6 PSI u would wana invest into a Diverter Valve and an intercooler, and get 94 gasoline (sunoco) that will support the added boost very nicely

Firestarted has a good point. I have upgraded my diverter valve (aka BPV) to the 225 hp TT version. I always run at least 93 octane, 94 if I can find a Sunoco. It really does make a difference.

Intercooler it not really needed for engine health unless you go above a 1 bar chip, but it would definitely help performance.

i've read that it's not advisable to run more than 19 PSI on gasoline but only on race fuel. easier on the engine.

as long as you have systems that support the engine running that kind of boost you will be ok, but what normal will run 19 PSI on a 1.8T constantly??

with that kind of pressure boost controller is a must and if u have one unless ure racing i dont think that kind of power is needed for everyday driving. And with 103 octane racing gas and proper mods you should be able to push at least something around 23-26 PSI
