The fact that you changed to a thicker oil probably means the oil is having trouble getting into the lifter areas and they are dry. Stick with Mobil, but stay at 5w50.</P>
However, like Firestarter said, using synthetic after dino may cause leaks - though I have never seen a case of it. Synthetics have much better detergents in them and will clean away all the sludge built up around your seals, allowing oil to leak past. Of course, the resulting leaks are symptomatic to the real problem of bad seals. So if you want a clean engine, and can afford to fix any seals that you discover to be leaking, go for it. The engine will run better with less oil coking. And its much better for the turbo.</P>

Uh - I think you missed my point. I was not telling you to avoid synthetic becaue you are using dino. I was saying to be prepared to discover seal problems that have been covered up by dino sludge. Synthetic keeps your engine cleaner, and if your dino sludge is keeping a bad seal closed, then cleaning that seal is going to cause a leak, no?</P>
I changed from dino to synthetic in my car at 50K. It exposed a cam shaft seal leak about 2 weeks later.Synthetic oil leaking through abad seal was the tech's explanation. I had it fixed and no leaks since.</P>
<P dir=ltr>As to the lifters - I experience lifter noise off and on. Its an occurance many audi owners experience. I have yet to see a clear solution to it except using thinner oil. In any case, stay with Mobil.</P>
