An Audi is not as reliable asmost japanese cars, but if you can afford casual maintenance on a vehicle then you will be happy with the A4. If you know/learn how to do the basics like changing oil, plugs, filters, etc, then the car won't cost you too much to maintain. Things to find out - Last spark plug change. Turbo ever replaced (if its a 1.8t)? Timing belt has been changed (I hope), kind of oil it has been running (synthetic vs dino), has it ever been chipped...

114K is a lot of miles, but I have 104K on my 98.5, and my car still runs great. I did lose a turbo back around 80K though - before I was chipped. Other problems Ive had:

1 bad control arm replaced. ($325) Another one is starting to go.

Bad airbag replaced. ($350)

Rear wheel bearing replaced. ($300)

Drivers side lower door molding replaced ($20)

coolant temp sensor replaced ($25)

i just went over 100k last week. if it is a 2.8 it is a solid motor. i have hadhardly anyprob with mine in three years other than regular maintnance. 88k thermostat went i also did my 90k tune up at the same time. also myO2 sensors went 95k.other than thoes things not to much went wrong. it also seems like a reasonable price from looking at autotrader yesterday there were a few a4 around that price
