Just bought a 2002 a4 monday with 64000 miles. Went to the dealer today to check on some things and asked when I should replace the timing belt and they to said 105,000, but recomended 90,000. I have a 12,000 mile warrenty so should I wait or replace it soon.

105,000 is too many miles. When you have that many miles with an old timing belt, it could go any day. Id say change it pretty soon.

60k or 4 years? My car is a 2001 but only has 35,000 miles on it...I didn't think I had to worry about it for another 30k miles.

My timing belt broke at approx 60,000. I was VERY fortunate in that I didn't do any damage to the valves. This guy wasn't so lucky. Change the belt at 60,000. Much cheaper than rebuilding your engine.

I replace mine at 95k and the tensioner was at it's max nad the belt was stretched to the point where I might of only had a few miles left on it before it went on me. Replace at 60 -70 k to be safe.

I asked at my dealership a couple weeks ago and they gave me the 105,000 mile schpeal(sp). I'm at just under 60,000 miles.
