Default A4 is hunting...Help!!!

i had the rev prob on my 97 2.8. when the engine got warm it would rev to 1300 then almost die(below 500). at stops i had to rev the car because if i didn't it would stall half of the time. people look at you weard when your at a light an reving your engine. took it to the dealer and they changed the o2 sensors and it was fine after that. the o2 sensors are cheep but labor is what kills ya.

the second prob i have no clue. i am assuming cooling resevoir. mabe a fine crack in one or your hoses or a clamp is just not on tight enough

hey markorbilly,

i just went thru the same problem....look at 4 posts down in the a4 forum. my prob was an issue with my mass air sensor. my car had the same probs when idle, with the revs jumping up randomly. yeah, the labour for the diagnostics kills you...coz of course they wanna check every other component first before that. to replace the MAF sensor takes but minutes. the part is kinda pricey though.

good luck.

1996 is probably off warranty, so why are you going to a dealer??? Go to an independent Audi mech. In the US, my dealer charges $90/hr my independent charges $65/hr.
