You need to open the box containing the ECU and check the part number. It doesn't take long.
Your car will run, but not very well. You'll run into some issues rather quickly.

That should be the right part # for your car... that's the ECU I use and I've got a 2000 ATW 1.8T.
But if you have no intention of going K04, then don't bother... you will run into problems, just like he ^^^ said.
