Default 01 Audi A4 BRAKE LIGHT

I am getting the yellow Brake Light warning on the cluster and both taillights are out. Brakes work fine and the center brake light in the rear is working. Bulbs, fuse, or brake switch?

start with the fuse, since it is right in front of you, and free then work to the lights, but if they both went out, you might have a short

Thanks for the reply, I will do that. Would a short require new wiring all the way back?

A short requires replacing at least the section of wire that's shorting, but it's most professional to replace it over the entire span.
Sounds likea blown fuse or both bulbs went out at once. Neither is uncommon.

Turbo Kraut seems to be pretty on point with this kind of stuff so maybe im finally in the right place... I have a similar issue with my 01 A4, just one of the tail lights is out, the bottom bulb with the dual filament that acts as tail and brake light. Brake light works fine but i'm not getting any power at the connector (Graywire/Black Stripe) for tail light. Checked any fuses that seemed remotely pertinent, all clear. Even checked the connections for corrosion, clean. Any help would be appreciated, trying to avoid a ticket.
