Guys

I have a A4 3.0 V6 Avant (2002), I am currently having the same vibrations. Had it in with Audi main dealer, they had it all day but could not reproduce vibrations. Tends to happen intermittently, but so far ever time i travel on the motorway at speeds around 80-85 MPH then slow down for intersections the vibration kicks in.

Audi techies found a fault flagged in their diags as showing 3 bad coils. They cleared the faults down and advised to carry on as normal until the vibrations happen again, and when it does to go into the nearest Audi centre to see if the same error codes show up - if so then the coils will need to be replaced.

Got the errors cleared on Monday 21 May, hitting the motorway today so will keep you posted of my outcome.....a lot of people whom i've spoken to are pointing to the coils...and thats me not saying anything about the erros found by audi.

will be in touch ....

I have the same vibe in drive when vehicle is stopped. 99 1.8T non-quatro. Goes away as soon as I'm above 5mph. Tell me if you figure it out.

re my previous post today. Drove up the motorway, constant speed hitting 4500rpm for a good 7-8 miles then the vibration kicked in. Booked in to se Audi Main Dealer techie in the morning to run through diags.....im guessin will flag up the coils, if so will get them replaced.

Will update you again on the outcome of the diags.

I have the same car as yours (year, make and model)but with 75,000 miles on it and I have the same vibration problem. Idles roughly excpt when it's in neutral or park, shakes pretty bad when my foot is on the gas and stops when i lift my foot. I have had it balanced, aligned, changed all 4 coils....nothing changed. Audi charged me $50 for some kind of daignostic but had no answers for me....I found a mechanic who says it's my axle assembly on the drivers side so I have been trying to get that replaced for 3 weeks now. Audi has the part for $475...however I bought a brand new one from race pages.com for $116, problem is supposedly audi made like 9 or 10 different kinds of axles for just my model so the one I got online doesn't fit on my car. It's the right size and everything but the spacing bt the bolts where it connects to my transmission is different....aaaargh...right now I am looking online to see if I can find another ...the part # is 8E0407271T....if anyone knows another website that has these axles or can even reconstruct my old one i'd be glad to know. Meanwhile, i'll be watching this post to see what ur fix is and i'll keep this updated and let you know if replacing the axle eliminates the vibration.

guys, following on from my previous updates...

went to the Audi dealership, with the same vibration (on previous occassions could not reproduce fault during diags). vibration through out car and struggling to push through gears, sticking to get into gear.

Techie hooked up laptop, confirmed multiple missfiire, but knew what the problem was before hooking up the laptop. Nothing to do with Coils, if there was a problem with the coils then the Engine Management Light would have flagged up. The problem was to do with the "Mass Fly Wheel" which in turn may have damaged the clutch as well, which explains the struggle to push through the gears (the fluid leaking on to the clutch damages it).

When some of you guys say that sometimes the vibrations settle its because the Fly Wheel eventualy finds a resting position until there is movement in the gearbox which then creates the vibration throughout the car.

Got a quote on the fix: to strip down gear box and fully examine Fly Wheel & Clutch then to replace both costs £800 sterling for parts and £700 sterling for labour (£1500). Expensive!!! They told me Fly Wheel has to be replaced but advised clutch to be done as well, because if clutch goes later will cost part + £700 labour to do....makes sense I guess.

Got a 2nd opinion on the diags by calling out the breakdown cover, he did not speak to Audi, as soon as he turned over the engine he knew what the problem was and said it was the Fly Wheel.

Decided to get the job done next week (doing it with main dealer so that i can have come-backs if problem not fixed). Im just glad the problem has been pinpointed. Will update you once I have the job done.

Audiv6....I am not sure your problem is the same as mine or tstfung's. You seem to be having problems with ur transmission as well. I have an auto and it's perfectly fine, my car just vibrates when i step on the gas and stops immediately i step off(basically shakes only when accelerating ).And then also rough idles when I am at a stop. You may be right and it may be the flywheel but I just want to make sure we have the same issue b4 I start to take my car apart.

I have the exact same problem as mikowen10 with my 2003 a4 3.0 quattro. After about 10 minutes of driving, the car will start to vibrate and shudder at around 60mph, then 40, then 20, then at the slightest press of gas pedal I start to get voilent shudders. It feels like a wheel is about to fall off. What's worse is that when it gets to the point of shuddering at the press of the gas pedal, I start to hear noises and feel things from the front wheels, whereas when it first starts (at 60 mph) it feels more like its coming from the back. I took it to autozone to see if I could pull some codes. Nothing.

I thought it was a wheel problem as everything was honky dory before I had my flat tire. I had to drive with a flat tire quite a ways to get to a tire shop as I couldn't change my tire because I lost that little plastic clip you need to pull of the plastic caps on the wheel. After I left, thats when it started. It was wierd because it only vibrates when I press the gas. Anyways I took it back and they found that my wheel was bent from having to drive with a flat. They fixed that and and everything was fine, I could hit 70 no problem. Then a few days later it came back and now its worse.

I bought this car used from CarMax and I got it with a 3 year extended warranty (worth it) so I have scheduled an appointment with them for Monday. This is a very strange problem that I hope has a simple fix and is covered under the warranty.

The only thing that I can think of that could've had something to do with it is that I poured a can of seafoam into my gas tank. Maybe it caused some dirt to clog something up?

Aaron keep us updated after the appointment so we have an idea what the problem is. Two mechanics have told me my driver side axle will need to be replaced but its like $500 at audi so i need to make sure b4 I buy it and then have it changed.

I will, I did alot of research to see if I could pinpoint the problem, but all I found were variations and different severity levels. There were some instances where the drivers just shrugged it off as "normal". Our problem seems to be at a point where the car seriously feels like its gonna reach critical mass and explode or at least have the wheels wobble and pop off. I'm just hoping my car will actually make it to CarMax in one piece. Also I popped the hood to see if it could be an engine mount problem, but we could'nt see anything move as I gave it some gas.
