02 A4 1.8tQ wheel question
Maybe I'm just a freaking idiot... I can't seem to get the wheels off of my A4.... I know that sounds like the dumbest thing in the world, and I'm a pretty mechanically inclined guy, so I don't know maybe I just didn't get enough sleep last night. It seems like the inner lip on the wheels catches behind a plate around the wheel hub?? Just me and my car, or does anybody else have any imput on this? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried kicking the wheel? (Make sure you are using jackstands, not a floorjack) You may also want to back the bolts out partially, lower the car, and drive a few feet back and forth to free them. You can also place a 2x4 across the wheel and use a sledge hammer.
Yup... got it... the answer was simply back in high school science class. Something sparked about dissimilar metals and their propendency to rust. A little PB Rust off and some good 'ol fashion elbow grease was all that was needed. Thanks for the suggestion.
I couldn't either, there are wheel caps over the lug nuts, you have to remove them..... there is a little tool that looks like a BIG U, use that and you will be able to take them off.
I had the same problem this weekend. Use a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer on the back of the wheel. The hub rusts and keeps the wheel from comming off. When you do get them off and take some fine sandpaper and clean off the rust. Then put a thin layer of wheel bearing grease on the hub, this should keep it from happening again. Do this everytime you rotate the tires and you shouldn't have the problem again.
