Default 03 1.8t Rear Brakes

noob question here..

So I've been looking around for some good deals on rear rotors.. ECS and Tirerack thus far. Anywhere else I should check out? Looks like about $120 - $150 for slotted rotors. What are your opinons of ECS vs Powerslot? And are B5 rotors the same size as my stock ones?

Also the piston tool for the rear. Should I just buy it or has anyone been able to rent one, like from autozone. I know sometimes they have random tool rentals.

Thanks.

you dont need to buy the tool, just use an adjustable "C" clamp.

when i changed my rear brakes i bought the universal tool from autozone..it was like 3 or 4 bucks...it has different patterns on each side....and you can use it with a 3/8 ratchet.....i had to shave one fo the sides down with a file (10 minutes) and just muscle it out....

also..from what ive read....drilled and/or slotted rotors are a waste of time and money unless you plan on doing some racing or getting your brakes hot enough for the slots to actually be useful....plus i heard they crack easily....i have no personal experience but i read up on it before i did my brakes....

Do you have 1.8t or 3.0 ??? Even if u got 1.8t you may have eiether 245x10 or 255x10 I have got PowerSlot Rear. Try to look here http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161124
But just search on forums, there are a lot of places selling them. Good Luck.

you could also search worldimpex.com for your needed parts. they sell OEM and top-quality German aftermarket parts.

I wouldn get ECS rotors, i have them and they arent lasting very long... one guy on audizine... PM jeremy@matrix, sells german cross drilled zimmerman rotors or get the powerslots...

also you do need the tool, but dont buy it from ECS, it is just a harbor freight tool they put their name on and charge u $20 more.. or you can borrow on from autozone, u need the tool because the rear pistons must be TURNED while be retracted...

PM me if u have anymore questions, ive done mine twice

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking powerslots. But now I'm wondering if I should upgrade my fronts as well. What about SS lines? Worth it if i'm not racing at all? And are most people using Hawk pads? I'd like something with low dust.

And can I tell if I have the 245's or 255's from my VIN?

I popped for the VAG tool for the rear brakes. I figured with three rides I would get the usage out of it. I've already done brakes on two of my cars and one for a buddy. With my discount at my dealer it was only $80.00.

not sure how it is for the b6 but for the b5, u have to turn the piston back in. yes autozone has the tool rental for that and it's 15 bux plus tax. if u want slotted rear rotors, ebay has alot of nice deals.
