Default '06 A4 2.0T

This was posted in the wrong section of the forum...

Hello all, I've been reading on this forum for about a week now, just to read up and try to know more about Audis. I've never own or driven one before but I've always liked them. I'm planning on getting a '06 A4 Quattro 2.0T auto with Tip. within a month, I already know the options that I want, even printed out the summary of it to take to the dealership to work a price on. The one thing I would like to know is the longevity/reliability of the vehicle, I've heard from people and even shops that has dealt with Audis that the turbos break after a while. Has anyone have this problem happen repeatedly? I take good care of vehicles I own, currently own a '03 Chevy Silverado ext. cab V8 that is still in excellent condition after 3 1/2 years of owning it(no, I'm not getting rid of it). BMW's and Benz's don't interest me at all and there are just way too many of them, they're like civics Anyways, can somebody fill me in on the A4's reliability, any input is appreciated....thx for your time

Hey SocalJoe, I was recently in your position, I just bought my 02 Audi A4 1.8t, and found out from consumer reports that the overall reliability of this vehicle model year has been poor, allthough 2003 on up has been better then average, so I suspect if you do go with a newer A4, you'll have a good chance of having better then average reliabilty for a 5 year forecast. The only downfall obviousely is the higher then average repair costs when it comes to dealing with import luxury automobiles, or luxury auto's in general but you'll just have to accept that. As far as the turbo's go, that will happen no mattter what, they are a moving component so quantifying the longevity of it will determine how well you maintain and drive your vehicle, I inherently drive a little more agressivley simply because I know there's a turbo under the hood, where as someone else may be a little more conservative. I'm not exactly sure what the scheduled maintenance is for the turbo's but with any moving object the potential to fail is inevitable. Hope this helps you out, if it's the luxury, performance, aesthetics, and reliability your looking for? then IMHO opinion a newer audi is a safe bet. Good luck man, and tell us how it goes.

Well 06's started selling around June or July. I've had my 2.0t for almost a year with no problems and ~15k miles on it.

Well, I went and visited an Audi dealer during lunch and they don't have the one that I'm looking for, the guy even checked other dealers' inventory. The only A4's that have a navi option are the ones with S package. I don't prefer the S package due do the stiffer ride. I don't want to feel all the bumps on the road when I drive, I want it to be smooth. The person at the dealership said that it would have to be ordered and it would take 2 1/2 months ....They don't have the A4 2.0T quattro available but a V6 version will be in tomorrow and I can test drive it, I'll test drive both S and no S package and see how they feel.....
