Default 1.8T 0r 3.0??

Hey yall, new to this fourm but I'd like to ask a few question's. I will be soon purchasing a new (to me) Audi avant 2002 or newer, and I was wondering what you all suggest as far as motors go? I know that most mods available are for the 1.8 T but I don' t plan on making this car ridiculously fast. I just want a driver that is fun and reliabile. I will obviously do the chip, exhaust, cold air intake deal. Curious if anyone has either both models or knows someone who owns the other so I can get a comparison as to which is more fun to drive. Also anyone have the Oettinger springs? How are they? Also is the 6 speed only available on the 3.0? As I want a manual tranny. Thanks in advance for the help.

Steve

Umm i have the sedan version but the 6 speed is available for both models just not in the auto. I prefer the 1.8TQ because its a higher revving more fun engine to play around with. Either models are good youll just have to choose on whether you want HP there already or you have to tweak it a bit with all the mods you just named and then youll get up near the 3.0 territory...hope this helps

it's kinda a toss up. It will cost you about 1500-2000 to get a 1.8t to the 220-235 hp range.

the 3.0 is a 1200 ish option. and already there.

I have a 3.0 with a 6 speed I love it. You'll also have better torque down low till about 3400 then the modded 1.8 and 3.0 will be some what the same.

I chose the 3.0 after driving the 1.8 and 2.0... I think the power curve and driving suited me more.

i drive an 02 3.0 with the six speed manual, i believe the 6 speed only comes with the 3.0, but i'm not sure. The 1.8T will give you a lot more potential for mods, yet i love the torque a lot with the 3.0, and it just feels good having that stock 220. If you really want a chip, it's not worth it for a 5 hp gain on the 3.0.

hope that helped

the biggest benifit with a chip is the improved throttle response, and the removal of the revel limiter.
