Sure you could do it. Transmission bolts up, engine mounts are the same. I dunno about the front subframe, but I imagine it's the same, since the lower control arms are the same for both. You'd need the 1.8T ECU, and you'd want to make sure that your instrument clusters weren't different, i.e. both have trip computer or not.

It would be a huge pain in the ***, though. And not worth it. If you sell your V6 and buy a similar-mileage 1.8T, you'd break even, maybe even make a few bucks. Having bought your V6 already (7K$) plus 3k for the engine and components and another 3k for the labor if you're a ***** and can't do it yourself, you've spent 13Gs to get a Frankenstein version of an easy-to-find 7K car. How attatched are you to your 12V?

This doesn't make sense. Get over the fact that to have a good Audi, you need to buy one that's factory turbocharged. You can't make 30Vs fast, (30V supercharger=P-16 K04'd 1.8T.) and you cannot make a 12V fast. Engine swaps are not cost effective for Audis.

i no its not cost efficient, but the way i look at it, i sell my car for 6g, wait 2 months to find a good 1.8t, i get one with 70k or more on it for around 9-10 then start from there... or spend an extra 2=11 grand an get an engine with 20k on it and start from there. although this is all speaking way in the future and i will most likely not do anything anything untill i graduate and then ill just buy a bike to go fast on, lol and save my audi for winter/ slow driving

I thought you said a 1.8T is 3k. And then you'd need all the rest of the **** to make it work, and the labor to put it in.

Just go with plan B.

No way would it take 2 months to find a good 1.8t. They're all over the place. It would be a month between the time that you sold your 12V and were driving your new Quattro 1.8T.

ok dont want to just throw my opinion in here.. but seriously I swear there are 10 questions a week about engine swaps.. either S4 or 1.8T or 12v to 30v heads.. first off dont settle with a car that your not 100% happy with when you buy it.. hold out and buy the car you want in the first place

Or do some research before you go out and buy a car. If you like going fast, you should figure out which model will allow you to do that. Frontrak 12Vs are not the same A4 as a Quattro 1.8T.
