1.8T or 2.8??
Ok. So I'm obviously new here.
I'm about to do a very smart thing: I'm going to buy an Audi. But as never owned one before (I've finally been converted off of driving dirty old domestics) I'm looking for some advice. I'm interested in buying a used one, probably between 1998-2000 as I kinda like the B5 body style better, and I'd like some input on which model to get, the 1.8T or the 2.8 V6? I'm interested in such things as mods, chips, overall performance and such...
Any input is much appreciated!
Keep it real!

Good call on the Audi. As far as modding will go, everyone here will tell you the 1.8T is the way to go if you want to get the most bang for your buck. I have a 2.8 and take it from me, it's tough to find anything that will make the 2.8 "go fast". I like my 2.8, but it is limited to what you can do, but for me that's almost better off, I'm a poor college student now and I'm kinda glad that I don't have a car that I could really drop some cash into. Haha. Either way, you'll be happy with what you buy, but it sounds like you'd be better off with the 1.8.
WEll The 2.8 saves gas also, Turbo car eat a lot of gas my buddy has a 1.8T and dang that car eats gas because of the turbo, although it's really fast. If you decide to go for a 2.8 V6 it's true you cannot do much to but you can also buy a SUPERCHARGER for It did buy one for and i think it's allrite, the cost of $6000 but that is not the only thing you can do, you can also change the valve springs, retainer etc... But the choice is your if you get a 1.8T i believe you'll saved more money not for gas but because it has so much potential.
The 2.8 gets just as much, if not better mileage than the 1.8, the difference is barely noticeable from what I've researched when buying my car. Either way, mileage is about 28 MPG stock on Highway, about 20 around town.

Its not.
The following is for an A4 Model year 1999
1.8T
City: 21 mpg (18 mpg auto)
Highway: 29 mpg (27 mpg auto)
Combined: 24 mpg (21 mpg auto)
2.8
City: 19 mpg
Highway: 27 mpg (27 mpg auto)
Combined: 22 mpg (21 mpg auto)
For Model year's 1997, 1998, and 2000... the 1.8T and 2.8's with Automatic Transmissions get the exact same MPG
