Can someone help out here, I have a 2003 audi a4 1.8t auto/ Quattro with a bad engine, my brother has a 2002 1.8t auto/ FWD with a CVT FSE tranny that also has a AMB engine. I called the dealer and they told me the engines are interchangable, so I had my mechanic start taking the engines out and swap them out. Today, my he calls me and tells me they dont fit and I need a AMB engine from a Quattro instead, does any one here know what are the differences betweem the AMB engine with a CVT tranny and the AMB engine from a Quattro, also is it possible to do the swap and if yes what is involved to make it work.

I can't answer your question as to the details, only add that the cvt and manual transmisson cars use the same long block engine part number and the auto trans engine is a different part number.
