Default 1.8T sounds like diesel?

I have a 2002 1.8T with 57000 miles. At idle it sounds like a diesel would sound. Anyone know what this is?

do you by any chance have a diesel truck standing next to you that is in idle as well.
that may be the problem.

could be a number of things...whatever it is it's not good. my old car sounded a little diesel-esque when my water pump bearing started going out...and if your water pump fails completely you'll have just a few seconds to shut your car off or you'll overheat...it could also be an internal problem, but if nothing unordinary has happened lately (mods, accidents, etc), i doubt that it's internal. could be a loose belt hitting something...have your timing belt checked...it should replaced every 60-70k miles...

if it's very faint, then it's normal...pretty much all our cars click somewhat...it's what audis do.

yea, something's wrong then...have your belt checked out first...your water pump should be replaced with your tb anyway, so you may want to look into that, regardless of whether it's the problem or not...i'm sure you'll get some more suggestions from other guys here....

My warranty is covered up to 100,000 miles. Do you think that this is covered in that warranty?
